History of The Old Spokes Home

The Old Spokes Home opened in the Spring of 2000 in Burlington’s Old North End in what was once the neighborhood Kosher grocery store. This concept followed a similar attempt in the early 90’s on Pine Street Burlington known as Planetary Cycles. The founder of Planetary Cycles and The Old Spokes Home, Glenn Eames, used as his inspiration a shop in San Francisco’s Haight District known as The Freewheel. Glenn was a frequent customer of the Freewheel in the mid 80’s where employed as a bicycle messenger.

Ralph Eames, Glenn’s cousin, joined The Old Spokes Home soon after it opened in May of 2000. Ralph brought a great passion for cycling as well as a refined approach to single speed bikes or "scorchers" to The Old Spokes Home. Together Glenn and Ralph have grown The Old Spokes Home into a must visit spot for anyone with a two wheeled passion.

In the Fall of 2002 The Old Spokes Home moved from 800 square foot beginnings to an old warehouse sight conveniently located next door at 322 N. Winooski Ave.
