All Metal Velocipede By: A. Dubois, Avenue de Paris # 104, St. Denis, France, Circa 1870 A set of all metal wheels was the noted improvement by maker A. Dubois of St. Denis, France who promoted them as superior in strength. This method of wheel building superseded the tension wheel. This type of construction resembles a wooden or wagon style wheel where a wheel is kept straight or "true" by the force of compression. Modern wheels, where spokes are threaded into a hub or nipple, hold a wheel true by adjusting spoke tension.
