The best bicycle shop in America is "The Old Spokes Home" in Burlington, Vermont. I am not just saying that. These are not just words. This is the way I really feel. I speak for myself, based on my own experience, as a person. And I speak for my bicycle, based on her own experience, as a machine. Bathsheeba (the bicycle) and I have pedalled across the United States four times; been up and down the Pacific Coast; gone from Massachusetts to Florida, to Nova Scotia, and to Vermont. I am not mechanically inclined, which is a delicate way of saying this: "If you put a tool in my hands, then I will break something." I can change a flat tire. But I cannot fix my bike. Fortunately for me, in my travels, I have been able to find good repairmen. (Unfortunately, however, no repair-woman...not yet any way) Returning to my story,...out of all my very good experiences with getting my bicycle repaired throughout North America, only one bicycle shop can rank as number one..i.e., the best...and that honor and distinction goes to "The Old Spokes Home." The mechanics who work there are first-rate and friendly. They get down, they get dirty, and they get the job done. They respect each other. They respect the customer. And they have rescued my bicycle (more than once) from oblivion. Glen, the owner, is honest and humane. He has hired the best people--and they like working for him. Just imagine how wonderful life would be if you actually LIKED your boss, hold that thought, and there you have Glen. TRUST is the one word that captures the essense of "The Old Spokes Home." These are people you can trust to do an excellent job at an exceptionally fair price. They are, in short, the very best.
