School Is In Session!

Wed, 10/12/2011 - 2:24pm -- Derek

The Old Spokes Home Bicycle School is now open for pre-registration! This year we have spent some time re-designing our curriculum, trying to take into consideration every skill level of rider and home mechanic.  We are offering three main classes, as well as some options for individualized courses, and open shop time.

Fat Bikes Are Here!

Tue, 10/04/2011 - 11:35am -- Harris

Although I am confident we still have some warmer weather to come before October expires, there is no doubt that winter will be here before too long.  In years past this has been the time of year to enjoy a few final months of riding trails before the wet leaves and eventual snow cover leaves them unpassable.  Well, it's the year 2011 and you no longer have to wait for winter to pass until you can enjoy getting out and finding exciting new terrain.  All you need is a "Fat Bike".

Fall Classic 114k/200k, Sturday October 1st, 2011

Mon, 10/03/2011 - 1:37pm -- Harris

Saturday morning, 5:15 am the tempeture hovered near 50 degrees as hardy randonneur enthusiasts from all over the northeast arrived at the shop for the annual Fall Classic ride.  Actually two rides, a full 200k brevet highlighting some of the best dirt road riding in northern Vermont, and shorter 114k version of the same route.  The route was imagined by a good friend and customer of ours and you can find more info including a map and cue sheet here : Littlecirclesvt.com.

A few weeks ago I took my bike down to New York City to catch up with some friends and see Big Audio Dynamite .  I had a great time cruising around the city for the first time since i lived there almost 3 years ago.   I ran into Rapha photographer Mike Spriggs in NYCVelo where i stopped for some air after patching a flat tube.  Mike is working on a photo blog for rapha capturing the style of city cycling in a few big cities around the world.  Mike snapped a few shots of me with my '56 Claud Butler

Down and Dirty

Tue, 04/19/2011 - 5:14pm -- Derek

Hunt and I decided to do some scouting after work yesterday and headed down to the intervale to see what the conditions were like on our beloved "Scorcher 500" trails. Needless to say we didn't get far. After a rolling stop in some mud, a quick look around, we high tailed it out of there and took the road down as far as we could. That is until it turned into a swampy field and once again we were forced to turn around. I guess our itch for adventure will have to wait a few more weeks for things to dry out. Here's a few pictures from our short excursion.
