History
The Old Spokes Home was founded by Glenn Eames in the Spring of 2000, in a former Kosher grocery store in Burlington’s Old North End.
Glenn has been seriously over the top with bicycles and cycling for over thirty years. His cycling resume includes a year as a bike messenger in San Francisco; a two-year ‘round-the-world bike tour; fifteen years as service manager for a bike shop in Burlington, Vermont; and a quarter of a century collecting bikes and researching the history of cycling and the evolution of bicycle technology.
Since the beginning the Old Spokes Home has been involved with Bike Recycle Vermont, the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Project, neighborhood charitable organizations, and local bicycle-advocacy organizations and initiatives. We gratefully accept donations of used bicycles and parts, but we ask that you please call before dropping anything off.
In the Fall of 2002, we relocated from our 800-square-foot beginnings to more spacious digs in an old warehouse right next door, at 322 North Winooski Avenue.
Take a look at how our little shop has grown over the years …
