It is cool to see a twist on the things that made a sport what it is today. A while back we posted to facebook some of the original “Klunkerz” video featuring Gary Fisher; amongst other mountain bike pioneers. The 'Repack Race' is a glimpse into the first days of mountain biking. These guys were taking 26” coaster brake bikes, outfitting them with motorcycle bars and setting off full speed down fire roads and trails alike. At breakneck speeds the race was titled the 'Repack' because at the end of a full speed day your rear hub would have all the grease burned out of it. This would warrant a complete rear hub overhaul after almost every ride.
The guys over at Transition Bikes have put together a great video featuring some of the fastest guys in downhill racing, sending it back to the days of Klunking. A little bit faster but all as much fun as back in the day.
