Singer and Co. England Xtraordinary Challenge 1884

Singer and Co. England Xtraordinary challenge 1884 One of the most popular high wheel safeties, the Xtra ,was first introduced in 1879. It owed its safety by positioning a riders mass behind the center of gravity. This was accomplished by a front fork having plenty of rake. The rider drove the machine by adjustable levers to the front wheel. This allowed riders of varying leg length to ride the same size wheel. This design also helped prevent the rider from going over the handlebars and taking a “header” due to a sudden encounter with a road object.
