Holiday Kids Bike Bonanza 2017 Recap

Over 100 kids went home with new-to them bikes last Thursday.

Once again the Bonanza was at the Sustainability Academy at Lawrence Barnes School right here in the Old North End. Believe it or not, we were able to fit over 150 bikes for families to choose from in their modestly sized cafeteria.

Many kids received their first bikes. Many kids received bikes that fit them better than their old ones. Some kids even learned how to ride in the cafeteria.

Local Motion gave away helmets and even set-up a helmet decoration station! Hopefully helmet personalization will lead to increased helmet wearing.

So many smiling kids -- and families.

Dozens and dozens of volunteers spent countless hours collecting, refurbishing, transporting, and then distributing these bikes. We couldn't have pulled of the Bonanza without their help.

The big kids seemed to have just as much fun as the little kids -- if not more.
